Sustainability programs and certifications
Besides the care with quality of the coffee produced by the cooperative, Cooxupé values and takes into account the environmental, economic and social impacts in the area of its operation. In 2015, the improvements made in the industry brought an energy saving equivalent to a consumption of 34,500 households and CO2 emissions, the reduction is equivalent to 1,850 trucks and 14 tons coming and going from Guaxupé to Santos. Moreover, in the environmental issue, the cooperative takes care of the adequate destination of solid and liquid waste and two units, workshops and laboratories, as well as encouraging cooperative members to have a conservative spirit and environmental responsibility.
In the social question, there are several actions to encourage and assist local residents. Last year, the Cooperative Demonstration Unit meetings collected more than 3.5 tons of non-perishable food that was donated to entities in the 16 municipalities where it was taking place.
In addition to these actions, the Cooperative keeps a core of environmental education, used by the school networks of the region of the action area of Cooxupé, where students come into contact with environmental recovery. With this initiative, we will have, in the future, citizens committed to environmental recovery. The children encourage their parents to participate in the programs proposed by Cooxupé together with their clients. The core also has a seedling nursery of Atlantic forest trees that are provided free of charge to the cooperative members and producers.
